Ann Marie Harriger here, your friendly sleep coach, and I’m excited to talk to you about the upcoming daylight saving time on March 10, 2024. We all know that time changes can sometimes throw a wrench into our well-established sleep routines, especially when we have little ones in the house.

As parents, we understand the importance of a good night’s sleep for both our children and ourselves. Sleep is not just a luxury; it’s a necessity for healthy development and overall well-being. With the impending time change, it’s a good idea to prepare and make the transition as smooth as possible.

One approach is to gradually adjust your child’s bedtime and nap times leading up to the time change. Starting five days before March 10, consider moving bedtime and naps 10 minutes earlier each day. This gradual shift can help your child’s internal clock adjust more easily, minimizing disruptions to their sleep routine.

However, it’s important to note that there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. If life is a bit hectic, and implementing a gradual adjustment feels overwhelming, it’s absolutely okay to “do nothing” initially. Instead, you can choose to adapt to the new time over the week following the time change. Remember, the key is to find a strategy that works best for your family’s unique circumstances.
